Happy New Year! It is the second week of being back to school
after the holidays and I know by now you have assessed your first semester and
put some plans into action for the new semester. If you haven’t done so, reflect on what
you've done and what you hope to achieve in the coming months.
Below, I am going to share three (3) things that all teacher
should do this semester:
1.) Reflect & Make Changes: Think about what worked or
didn't work last semester in your classroom and either keep doing what you've
been doing if it worked or make changes. Don't wait until next school
year to make changes (if needed). You can make changes in your classroom
whenever it's needed.
2.) Get a Work-Life Balance: Make time for yourself
and your family. Do not let planning, parent conferences, grading papers,
etc. consume all of your time. Develop a plan on how to get all of your
school related things done at school. Leave work at work and spend more
time with your family. If you are single, then make time for yourself or
that hobby you’ve always wanted to start.
3.) Be More Creative in Class: As teachers, we
sometime plan teacher-focused lessons because they are easier to manage.
This semester, talk less and plan more student centered lessons. Allow the kids to show you their creative
sides. Who knows, you might learn a
thing or two about your students.
Have a great 2nd Semester!
